  PRINCIPAL’S CORNER:

SHOUT-OUT’S…For those who are new to the school, or even a reminder to current families, we give “Shout-Out’s” every Friday morning during assembly, which recognizes students who have been caught doing something ABOVE and BEYOND during the week. Whereas all students are expected to comply with school rules and practices, we often have students that perform acts of kindness or helpfulness just out of the goodness of their hearts, without being instructed to do so. Sometimes the actions may seem small, but they are examples of trying to live like Jesus wanted us to and should be held up as models for other students to follow. The Shout-Outs can be given by any faculty or staff member and even by one student to another as long as the students are not friends in the same class. Of course, friends do nice things for each other, but kindness or helpfulness to someone who is not necessarily a friend is an ABOVE and BEYOND action. After the Shout-Out’s are recognized in morning assembly, a picture is taken and posted on our school Facebook and our parent Facebook with explanations of the model behavior. MORNING DROP OFF AND PICK UP REMINDERS

Thank you very much for complying with the school procedures which makes the system work faster and more efficiently for all. A couple of reminders….school begins at 8:00 am. This means that the child is inside the classroom at 8:00 am. It doesn’t matter when the car arrived. It matters when the student arrived to the class. Also, please hang your nametag from your rear view mirror or hold it up when coming through the pick up line. When it’s on the dashboard, the glare of the windshield makes it difficult to see. Pretty soon, the faculty will have memorized all names and cars, so the nametags won’t be necessary anymore unless you are having someone else other than the usual person pick up your child.

 

PAPERWORK REMINDERS

Please remember to turn in all of your paperwork sent to you at the beginning of the year. Soon we will be making “gentle reminder” phone calls. So to avoid that annoyance, please check through your things and get that paperwork in as soon as possible. Thank you.

 

 

 

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

Please note the various communication avenues the school uses to get information and news out to families. This parent newsletter goes home every Friday, and it’s the most comprehensive regarding overall news of the school and upcoming events.

 

The school has two Facebook accounts. One is St Patrick Catholic School https://www.facebook.com/stpatrickschoolnc/ and the other is St. Patrick Catholic School Parents at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1952892451443511/. The school posts the same information on both but the parent specific page is where parents sometimes pose questions to each other.

 

The school has a website that is updated regularly. This newsletter is also posted weekly on the website at https://stpatschoolnc.org/

 

We also have an Instagram account which you can follow at shamrock1620marlborough. I mostly post pics of happenings around school on this.

 

Of course the office can be reached by email or phone at any time. The phone number is 910-323-1865. I know the phone is often busy because we have a limited number of lines, so if you can’t get through, please email Jennifer at [email protected] or Elsa at [email protected], or me at [email protected]. Also, the teachers should have sent home their email contact information as well.

 

OPEN HOUSE & PTO MEETING

The first all-school PTO meeting will be held on August 28th at 6:30 pm in St. Brigid Hall. The new PTO Board will be introduced as well as all the teachers, and upcoming PTO sponsored events will be announced. You will have opportunities to purchase school Spirit Wear and sign up for volunteer hours. Refreshments will be served. A short demonstration about our new student data management program, Gradelink, will be given by Ms. College. After the brief meeting, parents will move over to the school for Open House presentations from your teachers. Teachers will present 2 identical presentations so that parents of more than one child can see both teachers if necessary. All special area teachers will also be on hand to meet. All children will report to the Conference Suite for supervised play so that parents can attend the teacher presentations. For safety reasons, children will not be allowed to wander about the school and playground unsupervised. Please mark your calendars to attend this important first PTO meeting and school Open House. There will be no homework on this night and parents who attend the PTO meeting will get a “Free Dress” pass for their child to dress down on September 3rd.  

 

WEEKEND EVENTS

Pray and Play: The parish is hosting a Pray and Play event tonight from 6:00 – 8:00. Bring your picnic blanket or chairs and we’ll provide the food and games. The event will begin on the soccer field. The tickets are $5 per person or $10 per family. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

Blessing of the Backpacks: Please have your student bring his/her backpacks to all Masses at St. Patrick Church this weekend for a special blessing, a backpack tag and a locker or fridge magnet. It’s a good way to start the school year off right.

 

PUBLIX and HARRIS TEETER SCHOOL PARTNERS

Both Publix and Harris Teeter have school give-back programs that help raise money for the school but cost nothing to the parents. You just have to register at the supermarket’s office inside the supermarket and tell them you want to dedicate your purchases to St. Patrick Catholic School, then you shop as usual. A percentage of your total is then donated by the supermarket to the school. It adds nothing to your bill and costs nothing to participate, so that’s a win-win for everyone. If you have already registered, and it’s been about a year, please check with the supermarket office because some branches require you to renew your registration every year. We greatly appreciate your participation in this program.

                             backpacks to church.

August 27             Girls’ volleyball home game vs. St. Mark

August 28             School rosary 8:15 am – Church

August 28             PTO General Meeting 6:30 – School Open House immediately to follow

August 29             Girls’ volleyball home game vs. Liberty Christian

August 30             12:15 dismissal (extended care open as usual)

SPIRIT DAY for kids. Dress code for Spirit Day is jeans and either a

School Spirit Shirt or a t-shirt in dark green or gold (our school colors). Shirts and

jeans must still comply with school requirements. (see handbook on dress down

days).
